On Sunday, Oct. 16, Rika and I hosted the trial run of THE BLACKENED BRVNCH. She gets most of the credit for that name. Actually, all the credit. I just get credit for agreeing that it was an awesome idea.

I will, however, claim credit for the monthly vegan brunch idea. Well, most of it. I was inspired by punk goddess vegan chef, Isa Chandra Moskowitz. The year I became vegan, my parents bought me her first cookbook, Vegan With A Vengeance, for Christmas. Like a true nerd, I read through the entire thing over the next two days. Nested in with her amazing brunch recipes, she has a page about hosting her own vegan brunch cafe, with friends, in Brooklyn. I was living in D.C. at the time, and wasn’t particularly adept or even interested in cooking just yet. But for some reason, the idea sounded something like a dream.

Fast forward nearly three years, and here we are. All it took was a move to Brooklyn, inspiring friends and a willing roommate. That, and winning a copy of Forks Over Knives by telling VeganChic.com that I was going to screen it at my vegan brunch. This was in August, but I promise, the idea was already starting to take true form.

We are heading into our third month, thanks to the wonderful friends who have joined us in our experiment and who have gotten so genuinely excited about it, and not just about being fed but about being involved.

I’m hoping this site will turn into a place where we can discuss and share information about conscious and sustainable living, even if we’re chowing down while doing it.

Onward.
